Volunteerism's in the air

Saturday, I was painting, cleaning and mopping; Sunday I was driving the ambulance to and fro CGH. I know it can be unprofessional to complain of another volunteer on a blog like this but being a volunteer is not a profession, so technically speaking, there isn't any professionalism to talk about right?? There! I've given the perfect excuse for me to continue what I'm going to blog about.

Couldn't stand our IC for the day. He insisted of sending one casualty (word "casualty" used here is for easy reference and not by degree of injury to the subject) to A&E when the latter refused. Told him to let the casualty rest first and then we decide whether to send him to the hospital or not. Anyway, he wasn't bleeding and was otherwise all right besides the numbness in his butt and pain on his back - and he has kayaked around Ubin for goodness' sake! Of coz anyone would feel numbness and pain! He insisted of sending him to A&E RIGHT AWAY and gave a lecture that he "should not participate in any competition or sports if (he) feels pain". His friend got pissed off and retorted "wa lao! Which sportsman don't feel pain?! If pain then don't be a sportsman lah! You go and see which soccer player don't have injury before one........" and my IC continued debating with the casualty's friend.....

After debating, my IC still insisted of sending the casualty to A&E, the casualty relented despite being unwilling. After sending him to A&E (and my 2nd trip to CGH for that day), he was still quite pissed about having to go to A&E - cos' he was starving and had no money on him, and he didn't want his family to be worried and has to make arrangements for his car to be driven home. Poor chap. He said he's not going to kayak for the rest of his life. Hope it wasn't because he was that pissed.
