Restless leg syndrome

I have this problem which I always thought was due to fatigue or stress. When I lie down or sit for too long without moving, I feel this urge to move my legs and the feeling is unbearable. Thought nothing much of it...maybe it's rheumatism or something...until I came across this term "Restless leg syndrome". Checked it out on the net and this was what I found.

How is Restless Legs Syndrome Diagnosed?
Diagnostic indicators include the following:

  • Desire to move the limbs usually in association with paresthesias/dysesthesias.
  • Motor restlessness.
  • Symptoms are worse or exclusively present at rest (i.e. lying, sitting) with at least partial and temporary relief by activity.
  • Symptoms are worse in the evening/night.

Are there other factors that physicians consider when confirming a diagnosis of RLS?
Additional features that may suggest RLS may include the following:

  • Difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep.
  • Involuntary movements of the legs (or arms) that occur during sleep or while at rest.

And I met every one of these symptoms.

Things are getting worse these days. It used to be just during long flights or road trips while travelling overseas. Now I have difficulties getting to sleep and I can't even stay still for 1 hour of massage! And this involuntary jerking while sleeping is killing me - keeps me awake!!!!

Not sure if it's the steriods that I'm on. Ear Nose Throat (ENT) doctor diagnosed me with Allergic Rhinitis Syndrome (Sigh!!!! What is wrong with me?!?!?!?!) and prescribed me with a nasal spray, which is essentially a steriod. Website said that steriods could trigger RLS. Looks like I'll have to make yet another trip to the specialist.

And as for my nose....been plagued with streaks of blood from my nose, no sense of smell, pain when I touch my nose, constant sneezing, blocked nose and of course, poor quality sleep. Saw many docs...finally one gave up and referred me to the ENT specialist. He did a scope and ran some tests.

No cancer (Thank goodness!) but something's causing all my nasal glands to swell. So he did a allergy skin prick test. Found that I'm allergic to dust mites, cockroaches and some types of grass. So, the answer for all my problems - my allergies caused my nasal glands to swell, that's why I lost my sense of smell. The sneezing's due to the allergic reaction and there's more nasal discharge which dry up in my nose causing discomfort, and cause bleeding (hence the blood) when I try to remove them.

The wonder of medicine!

Was in the kitchen the other day when I stepped on a cockroach while the lights were coming on. A minute later, I started sneezing! (I'll address the problem of cockroaches roaming my house next time) When I told CC about my diagnosis, she reminded me that I was complaining that there were cockroaches around my house at that time. So it's true! Val almost told me to go fly kite when I kept telling her that my constant sneezing in the office was due to my allergy to work.

Now that one problem's solved. Another surfaced. What am I gonna do?!?!?!!?
