Ah Bui and I have been to the watch shop on 3 separate occasions to buy watches. She lost the first one we bought for BoBo after she left it in a cab. Went back and bought a 2nd one for BoBo. Then third time we went back cos' she wanted to get watch for Shiqin's birthday.

It's easy to buy watches for people's birthday. Cos' it's practical and you can juz work into a shop and get any watch that suits your budget.

Now I feel like buying a watch too. This one. :D

I think, therefore I am

I think I am beginning to turn into a hermit. Words spoken are lost, beliefs and attitudes vanished. Allow me not to turn into a hermit.

==================================================================================

The phrase "cogito ergo sum" is not used in Descartes' most important work, the Meditations on First Philosophy, but the term "the cogito" is (often confusingly) used to refer to it. Descartes felt that this phrase, which he had used in his earlier Discourse, had been misleading in its implication that he was appealing to an inference, so he changed it to "I am, I exist" (also often called "the first certainty") in order to avoid the term "cogito".

At the beginning of the second meditation, having reached what he considers to be the ultimate level of doubt – his argument from the existence of a deceiving god – Descartes examines his beliefs to see if any has survived the doubt. In his belief in his own existence he finds it: it is impossible to doubt that he exists. Even if there were a deceiving god (or an evil demon, the tool he uses to stop himself sliding back into ungrounded beliefs), his belief in his own existence would be secure, for how could he be deceived unless he existed in order to be deceived?

"But I have convinced myself that there is absolutely nothing in the world, no sky, no earth, no minds, no bodies. Does it now follow that I too do not exist? No: if I convinced myself of something [or thought anything at all] then I certainly existed. But there is a deceiver of supreme power and cunning who is deliberately and constantly deceiving me. In that case I too undoubtedly exist, if he is deceiving me; and let him deceive me as much as he can, he will never bring it about that I am nothing so long as I think that I am something. So, after considering everything very thoroughly, I must finally conclude that the proposition, I am, I exist, is necessarily true whenever it is put forward by me or conceived in my mind." (AT VII 25; CSM II 16–17)
There are two important notes to keep in mind here. First, he only claims the certainty of his own existence from the first-person point of view — he has not proved the existence of other minds at this point. This is something that has to be thought through by each of us for ourselves, as we follow the course of the meditations. Secondly, he is not saying that his existence is necessary; he is saying that if he's thinking, then he necessarily exists (see the instantiation principle).

Descartes does not use this first certainty, the cogito, as a foundation upon which to build further knowledge; rather, it is the firm ground upon which he can stand as he works to restore his beliefs. As he puts it:

"Archimedes used to demand just one firm and immovable point in order to shift the entire earth; so I too can hope for great things if I manage to find just one thing, however slight, that is certain and unshakeable." (AT VII 24; CSM II 16)

Perhaps what Descartes meant, simply put is "I am vividly aware of my existence".

Juz thought about this poem

1. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

LET us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats 5
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question … 10
Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.

In the room the women come and go
Talking of Michelangelo.

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes, 15
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap, 20
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes; 25
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate; 30
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

In the room the women come and go 35
Talking of Michelangelo.

And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair— 40
[They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”]
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin—
[They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”]
Do I dare 45
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

For I have known them all already, known them all:—
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons, 50
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?

And I have known the eyes already, known them all— 55
The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase,
And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin,
When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall,
Then how should I begin
To spit out all the butt-ends of my days and ways? 60
And how should I presume?

And I have known the arms already, known them all—
Arms that are braceleted and white and bare
[But in the lamplight, downed with light brown hair!]
It is perfume from a dress 65
That makes me so digress?
Arms that lie along a table, or wrap about a shawl.
And should I then presume?
And how should I begin?
. . . . .
Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets 70
And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes
Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows?…

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.
. . . . .
And the afternoon, the evening, sleeps so peacefully! 75
Smoothed by long fingers,
Asleep … tired … or it malingers,
Stretched on the floor, here beside you and me.
Should I, after tea and cakes and ices,
Have the strength to force the moment to its crisis? 80
But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head [grown slightly bald] brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet—and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, 85
And in short, I was afraid.

And would it have been worth it, after all,
After the cups, the marmalade, the tea,
Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me,
Would it have been worth while, 90
To have bitten off the matter with a smile,
To have squeezed the universe into a ball
To roll it toward some overwhelming question,
To say: “I am Lazarus, come from the dead,
Come back to tell you all, I shall tell you all”— 95
If one, settling a pillow by her head,
Should say: “That is not what I meant at all.
That is not it, at all.”

And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while, 100
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor—
And this, and so much more?—
It is impossible to say just what I mean!
But as if a magic lantern threw the nerves in patterns on a screen: 105
Would it have been worth while
If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a shawl,
And turning toward the window, should say:
“That is not it at all,
That is not what I meant, at all.”
. . . . . 110
No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use, 115
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool.

I grow old … I grow old … 120
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me. 125

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown 130
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

The environment

largely influences one's behaviour, thoughts and feelings. For example, in a hierarchical environment, those in the lower hierarchy are often passive because they are often not involved in decision-making. In fact, they were not encouraged to think because that would cause problems, especially for those in the higher management.

One can probably choose not to be in such an environment. It numbs the feelings and dulls the brain. When days after days are spent lamenting about the environment, it eats into one's life, killing it subtly, affecting the micro environment around the person, perpetuating the negativity.

Who can stop the negativity? What can? How did it begin in the first place? One wonders. Perhaps when one choose to cocoon himself from the environment, he is able to function, to be himself, to do as he please. In my environment, we call this bochup. Why, I see it in all of us.

It's wrong. I hate it. I cannot condition myself to adapt to an environment like that. I need to get out. It doesn't help being somewhere else with the same environment because this is society. This is how people work, function and survive. It feels as though I don't fit into this society. I don't belong, I can't stay. Where shld I go? What shld I do?

@ work

This ah bui XP heart no good. She say I go Thailand mati, come back also mati, might as well give her my Infinity membership. KNS! You see lah! This kind of fren! She say Mr Soh dun wan me @ SD, then Hd Admin cannot post me out, so she decided to post herself out. Pooi!! But actually quite funny lah...hehehe

Yar...so yesterday 3 of us went for JC Boxercise. This ah bui 1 week never exercise...dunno why she sick when Darren's not around. Maybe she more love sick than anything else lah. Jialat. He's short, has bad complexion and not goodlooking. She say his body nice, especially his shoulders. Jialat. I think she needs to get her eyes checked. Maybe I see from different angle that's why cannot see the muscles definition. :D

Talk about ah bui da pang. Dunno why she so bad mood these days. Yesterday she exerted more strength than usual. She's very pek chek lah. Poor ah bui. Dunno she going JC boxercise tomorrow or not. Better to let her whack the targets than whack our clients one of these days. :D

Sigh. This week dunno why KC only 1 class. He does look funny without his bandanna lah. Like if take his black and white photo and frame up, plus must wear those 70s/80s kind of specs then will look like those photos on the walls of ancient chinese clans. But still, he quite goodlooking! Kekeke.... That day attended his body balance class hor, aiyoooo....so paiseh!! He was looking around the class, then our eyes met (dun vomit hor...kekekeke) then waliew so paiseh! Hopefully he interpreted the blush on my face (if I did blush, aircon was making my face turn blue) as nao chong xue after the backbreaking stances.

Oh yar. Juz now forgot to add. This cycling group hor. Damn kua zhang. They want to bring extra tubes for everyone, extra tyres (not tubes hor...it's TYRES!!!), bicycle chains and dunno what! I think hor, why not everyone juz bring an extra bike lah. Waliew we don't get safety vehicle for nothing loh! But if want to bring, bring an extra set of wheels lah. I think HL needs 'em.

Burp!

Juz had dinner and oranges, plus lunch at MOS and tea and nuggets in between, and I'm now very very full. This ah bui is bad influence cos' she keeps eating and once she eats, I want to eat too! Anyway, it's only 10pm and I'm home. I'm seldom home at 10pm cos I'll be either at California or at work. Contemplated going to gym juz now...but thought I shld take a break and come home and rest. Not been having enough sleep for some time. Well, actually, ok....maybe I'm depressed. Juz came back from meeting the other cyclists for the trip. KNS! These idiots are cheongsters on road bikes loh! I hope their tyres puncture every 30km! Haha! Then probably I'll ride with them all the way.

These KNS cheongsters suggested that we shld ride in a group. Not that I don't want to loh....it's like asking the peh-peh-peh kind of malaysian motorbikes to go long distance with Harleys. Can or not?! Can lah!!! Everything also can! Juz give me a year! TMD...dunno why I always go on such holidays. Though my job may be boring, suck blood and bang head against wall....go holiday still need to cycle until peng san, if not huff and puff up mountains. What am I doing with my life man?!

One of the guys in the group is this angmoh AKA HAO LIAN! HL wouldn't stop bragging about how good he is or how many things he can do. He was asking us if anyone of us can do leading-belay. Hello?!?!?! With your bloody kind of weight, I think you make the mountain belay for you lah... Then said he thinking of bringing his own ropes. KNS...what the hell are you trying to prove loh?!? Anyway, juz for info, HL is king-kong size - the usual ang moh size if u get what I mean. I hope his tyres will puncture every 10km! Anyway, I think realistically speaking, he shld not use road tyres cos' with his kind of weight, not say I curse him. His tyres puncture cos' of physics principles!

HL wouldn't stop. He went on to talk about diving. Waliew! Talk about diving, don't come and smoke me loh. Say he wanna do wreck dives at Krabi. Errrr....UNCLE HL, if you're not talking about technical dives hor, then dun waste time lah. Dive to see a ship, go to Keppel shipyard can see a lot, FREE somemore! Then he went on to talk about masks, and said "Oh shoots! I forgot I can't wear contact lenses, I've got an eye infection!" then blah blah blah... Turns out that he don't even have his own mask. Wah! If you really seasoned diver got no mask hor, then a seasoned cyclist won't have his own bike. Then he said he actually wanted to do lasik cos' no need to buy masks with degree cos every few years need to change. I think this guy hor, really no brains anyhow talk. Why I'm surrounded by such people all the time har???

I suspect he never stepped into a dive shop before lah. Where got people step into dive shop every few years to change lens for masks one?!?!?!
HL: "Hello uncle!! It's me again!!! I want to test my eyesight and renew my lens ah. Ya ya, my masks XXX brand one."
Uncle : "HL! You again ah!? Test eyesight go optician lah! I down here sell diving equipment only! But I always welcome people with lots of money, especially those with no brains. Come come!!! Booties and fins also want to change?? You still developing lah! Especially your brain!"

Maybe he dives at places with signboards underwater. Or maybe he reads underwater. Anyway, I'm sure this kind of water buffalo sure finish his air faster. He better go buddy someone else. If not I will drown him. KNS.

Friday cycle to work!!!! This weekend muz go cheong also!!! Stupid HL!!! I won't collapse before him!!!

Sunday, January 15, 2006

Was watching the video footage that dad recorded during the recee trip from Hatyai to Phuket and he mentioned that there are lots of long slopes along the route. Gulp! Then mum added, as usual, that I could always move my bike up the safety vehicle whenever I go up the slopes, then come down again when the slope dips. Duh! Then cycle for what?! Might as well dun ride and sit in car, saves the trouble of having to move a bike up and down. Then I asked jiejie if the other 9 cyclists are seasoned. She said they are and that I'm probably the weakest link. She suggested that I'd better condition my body for the ride.

Me? The weakest link? Perhaps it's time for me to empathise with the stragglers whom I've met in the past. Cycling is a simple equation. If I'm pissed or angry, I'd pound on the pedals and overtake the other cyclists. I used to think to myself when I overtake some of these people "Weren't you the one who gave me the "you-can-cycle?" look? Maybe I can't lah, it's just that you really suck at riding." or "Eat my dust." It feels good to overtake people and give them the "ei! Jia you! Don't slow down! We're reaching our next stop soon! Don't give up!". At their expense of course.

This happened until the Round Island Cycling event. I was pounding on the pedals for weeks, 150km each time and gradually my knee hurt. I went to see a sports doctor who diagnosed me with flat feet. She said that the cycling coupled with the running took a toll on my knees. Then I stayed off cycling ever since, more because I was in training school and I have been running so often that I think my legs need a break during the weekends.

In fact, even in training school, that negative energy was being transferred to running. Even though I hate running. Maybe that's how I got the Best PT in training school. Haha! Maybe Mr Tan was right. I am masochistic. I take all the frustrations and take it out on myself.

Now I'm going to be the weakest link?

Can't pound on the pedals cos' that won't last me till the end of the trip. Nonetheless, I'm not going up the safety vehicle. Riding used to be my pride and I'm not going to just give up.

The day I "heard" ah bui's wrist

XP said I "heard" ah bui's wrist today. Ya...we were at JC Boxercise class, then Bui was the boxer I was holding the pads, then she was doing a left hook then she said pain. Then after that take out handwraps then can see her vein like extra prominent. Think sprained arh...The instructor wanted to take down her name etc to give her first aid after the class but we think it's kinda awkward lah...so decided to juz go. But the poor instructor hor...kenna bullied by another instructor...he said that she forgot her brains!!! Waliew!!! So mean man..this guy!!!! Hope we din cause the female instructor some further embarrassment after the class. Wait the guy say she no-brain again for letting us go, wait we come back and sue their asses off.

Now for the not-so-serious part, I heard ah bui's wrist said "I'm too thin!! Cannot support other parts of body!!!" Kekeke....

Sigh...ah bui's gonna be out of action for sometime leowz....cos' I "heard" her wrist....next time ah bui muz put handwraps tighter so that it will shuddap and wun talk. :P Next time help u k...sorry never help u wrap....

XP and I decided to go to KC's bodycombat class today. I almost forgot how he looked like but after going to his class today, I reaffirm that ------------ HE'S GOODLOOKING! heeeeeeeeeeeeee.............. So after his class, happy happy, then I asked XP if she wants to go and for Darren's last class before he goes for his holiday. Then she think think, and we decided to take a cab down to Republic Plaza to pia his bodypump class. When we reached there, she realised that her wallet's missing! So we pia-ed back to Orchard in the same cab, XP hopped off to grab her wallet (someone returned it, minus $50) and we pia-ed back to Raffles. Made it in time for his class still! Haha!!! My legs and arms were shaking after the class, all thanks to the number of lunges (I lost count after a while) and triceps extension we did. Fwah...if I go for bodycombat, JC boxercise and bodypump every other day, I'd be looking like....ermm...ermm.....a PTI? in no time!!!! First, I need to lose weight. That shall start tomorrow cos' I still got a lot of chocolates left in the fridge. :D

Nothing in particular

Didn't get my punching bag today afterall. By the time I stepped out of my office, Liang Seng was closed. I feel so tired. Having 2 days off as opposed to 1 day off while doing ops makes a world of difference. I was so tired that I was literally crawling on the expressway at 70km/h. Got home and found that sis has brought her bike back. Seeing her Gary Fisher bike brings back good ole memories. Those were the days when life was carefree...

I remembered once when ah chew and I were so bored that we decided to juz take our passport, 1 set of clothes (in case we can't get back to spore) rent a bike from Changi V, take the bumboat from Changi Point to wherever the bumboat was going. It turned out that the bumboats there only go to Pengarang. So we went Pengarang. After all the lobsters, prawns, crabs and 1 tiny plate of veggie in oyster sauce (we asked for the smallest plate possible), we pia-ed all the way back to the jetty and came back to Singapore. All on a Monday. Eventually, even the bumboat uncle recognised us... After my first cycling trip to Desaru, I went on to try offroad and long distance cycling. Like the feeling of watching the tyres spin and the wind in my ears.

Jiejie changed her tyres to Panaracer. Still have the little spikes because it's still new. Remember Pinpin once said the same of his tyres. Haha! Those were the days....

Jab cross hook uppercut!

Waaa!!! Just called papa! I asked him if the ceiling can hook up a sandbag. His first response was "You sure or not? Home hang a sandbag for what?" Then I blah blah blah...then he said "If want, can hang one..." Yahooo!!! That's the GREEN light!!! Later go Liang Seng and buy!!!! Think I'm turning my room into boxing ring leowz. I think need to buy the unit upstairs so that I can have a higher ceiling. Need to skip lah...heeeee.....boxing need to train agility. Now got sandbag cannot skip.

Wah so shiok! Can you imagine!? My own sandbag!! No need to fly down from work juz to rush for the 6.30pm JC Boxercise class. No need to glare at the rest during management meeting when the meeting inches toward 6pm. No need to go jogging or use weights leowz! All because I have my own sandbag!!! Can polish up my skills, so that I can hoot any clients (staff included...MWAHAHAHA!!!) when they try to be funny!! Justin can also hoot the sandbag instead of pushing didi all the time. Didi can strengthen his muscles also, so that after he grows up can hoot korkor back. I'm sure the 2 boys will have healthy muscles development! All thanks to ah yi's sandbag!

Tonight taking jiejie's bike back home also. This CNY hols going cycling...from Hatyai to Phuket. Jiejie says to get ready for 150km per day. Waphiang! I pray no slopes if 150km. Wah!! I cannot believe it. My life from 8-12(note it's 8am to 12am) to sandbags, JC boxercise and cycling again. Finally got something different!!

Woohoooo! Liang Seng here I come!!!

Hoot ah!!!

I think the Jackie Chan (JC) boxercise is really fun!!! Been going regularly for the past few days. It's like those days when PK, Raymond and me went to Kee Min's house to learn muay thai. Dunno why everytime I think of Kee Min's house, I think of fishing...hehehe... His father's Koi pond looks very inviting for fishing leh!! :D Anyway...yah....now I get to put on handwraps and gloves again and bian bian bian!!! Wah so shiok!!! I even bought a target to bian somemore!!! :D Anyway, this da pang really a toufu :D. Today haven't start the class she already aching from yesterday's class. Then xiao pang sway, got a bimbo for partner. Talk about this xp hor...she arhhhh.....yesterday got 3 of us 1 team, so Darren the instructor (whom ONLY XP thinks is cute) put on the pads (boxing pads hor...dun get the wrong idea..) and came to join us. Then of coz this xp hor, got disillusioned and thinks that Darren was distracted cos' she's too pretty and couldn't concentrate on holding the pads properly for her. However, DP and I think that it's because he got distracted by her less-than-perfect eyebrows. Hahaha...u can read more from her blog at chweli.blogspot.com. Not say I want to say him loh, so short, body so-so, got bad complexion and tries too hard to act cute. No seh somemore, unlike XXX who is tall, tanned, cool and really got seh!! He walk past hor, got wind somemore one!! Not break wind hor...

Anyway, yesterday when I was packing my cupboard, I found a lot of Bodyshop bottles and stuff. Waa...it's like I'm stepping back into the world when I was 18. Wa! Like Chronicles of Narnia! :D Then I found my half-used bottle of Biotherm facial cleanser, so today decided to use loh. Then hor, when I used it hor...the fragrance reminded me of the days in Amore leh!!!! You know it's like a certain smell reminds you of a certain place?! The facial cleanser reminded me of Amore loh!!! Sigh...or more like reminded me of XXX............so sad....he doesn't recognise me anymore when I bump into him on the streets these days.....sad.......

This DP suggested that I sign up for Amore packages again but...aiya, already life-time member of California leh...still go back to Amore for what right. Sigh.... Whhhyyyyy does the sun go on shining.......... Then hor, got a "Ka Chng" instructor in California who looks a bit like XXX but dun have all of XXX's qualities of coz...hehehe but his class always like at 7am?!??!?!? So these days seldom see him leowz...sigh.....

Today I told YK that I bought a target. Then he was very excited as well cos' he said nobody hold target for him. Fwah!!! Finally found someone to help me hold taget vice-versa!!! Thinking of asking him to go California for JC boxercise class this Thursday but I scared of him ah...he one kick, wait I fly out of the window..... So exciting!!! Maybe Mr Soh wants to reconsider to post me to SD!! Heeeee... Today Mr Soh called me to ask something. Sigh! Workplan coming soon...wait see him paiseh again... :(
